HAITI
During Superstorm Sandy, 51 people died in Haiti. The hurricane also created a fresh cholera outbreak that threatened to take more lives. Time was critical as we made plans to provide clean water. We joined forces with Impact Nations and the Ugandan Water Project (UWP). James Harrington, was a great partner with all his experience in Uganda installing large water collection tanks where water is in short supply.
Ten tanks were installed holding 300 gallons each of rainwater collection. Five in the hills of Bouvier, two in the coastal town of Jacmel, and three in Port au Prince. These tanks, along with water filters, helped avoid a larger outbreak of cholera in an emergency situation facing the country of Haiti.
